Emergency Airworthiness Directive 2019-0237E has been issued and affects our DG505 JZB.
It concerns the locking mechanisms of the canopies. Occurrences have been reported where a locking rod unscrewed itself so that it did not retract fully into the canopy when the mechanism was unlocked. If this occurred in flight it could prevent the canopy being jettisoned in an emergency.
The EAD requires, at every daily inspection, to check that the canopy locking rods do not protrude over the canopy frame contour with the opening mechanism in the fully open position.
This is a simple visual check, but it must be done at each daily inspection from now, on both front and rear canopies. If the end of the locking rod protrudes at all, then the glider is unserviceable.
Do not attempt to rotate the rod, either by hand or with a tool.
