The K21 now has an Artificial Horizon (AH) capability. It is an integral part of the S80 Vario system and is available in the front and rear seats.
The AH uses the middle part of the Vario screen but the normal Vario needle is still present around the outside, so the two can be used together. The AH display can be reached by using the top or bottom push buttons to the right of the screen to cycle round the available display options.
The various display options available on the S80 Vario are depicted in Chapter 5 of the Manual (page 24) which is attached to this post. It is a big manual, some 127 pages, but don’t worry you don’t need to read all of it! I refer you to Chapter 4 and (parts of) Chapter 5 for the main operational information of the instrument. The AH information is contained in Chapter 5.5.4, page 40. I recommend that everyone who flies the K21 should familiarise themselves with how to navigate around the available display options including the new Artificial Horizon
There is a paper version of the Manual in the Clubroom, though this may not be the latest version. It is kept with the aircraft flight manuals near the clubroom computer.
I intend to produce a simplified crib sheet showing how to access the various modes of operation of the Vario in due course.
